Lugs instead of continuous threads are the distinct features of metal lug closures. The indented teeth of the closures latches onto the threads of lug jars to provide a secure grip and seal with the container. Different styles of lugs are available, such as having a safety button feature on the center of the cap that pops up when the seal is initially broken to indicate freshness. Also plastisol lining can be included to provide a completely hermetic (airtight) seal. Lug closures are commonly used for preserving foods and non-carbonated beverages.
